GROW: Join One of the Top Mental Health Organisations in Auckland
We all need a little help from time to time. Let’s face it, today’s world throw many, sometimes unexpected challenges at us whether we are ready for them or not. Why not join one of the only volunteer-run peer support mental health organisations in Auckland to help you deal with the pressures of life?
At GROW Mental Health, we run a series of mental health programmes, including group therapy sessions to help our members deal with a wide variety of mental health issues. We connect them with peers who have experienced or are experiencing similar problems, in a safe space, where they can share experiences and receive and offer advice and support.
The Benefits of GROW Mental Health Services
We offer a wide variety of community-led initiatives that help people from all walks of life deal with mental health issues, ranging from depression to schizophrenia. We provide a safe, non-judgemental space where you can give and receive support to help you deal with and overcome whatever ails you.
Whether you are OCD in Auckland or bipolar in New Zealand, we have the programme for you. Our community therapy sessions offer help and support with a wide range of mental illnesses including depression, PTSD, anxiety, post-natal stress syndrome, panic attacks and many others.
Our method consists of 12-step programme similar to that of Alcoholics Anonymous, paired with volunteer-led group therapy sessions where likeminded individuals get together to share their experiences and interact with each other, offering and receiving support and advice.
Our sessions are completely anonymous, and free of charge. Anyone can join without an appointment or referral. As a community association, we strive to provide help and support to all who need it.
What You Should Know About New Zealand Mental Health
The need for mental health interventions in New Zealand becomes apparent when you look at the statistics that show a significant proportion of the population is, or has been affected by mental health illness at some stage of their lives.
Mental health disorders are prevalent in New Zealand, with one in six, or nearly 600 000 people having suffered from some form of mental illness in their lives. Our group therapy sessions aim to help alleviate some of the mental distress suffered by people through accumulated shared experiences and support.
Mental illness is the third highest cause of loss of health among New-Zealanders after cancer and vascular and blood disorders. Approximately 650 000 adult New Zealanders were diagnosed with depression at some point in their lives. That is a startling number considering the total population of NZ is only about 5 million.
In the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic, many people are working from home rather from an office. The lack of human interaction and diversity has led to an increase in depression, anxiety and stress in many people.
